The little light bulbs that turn on in classrooms all over the Commonwealth every day — as children learn to read and write, solve equations, think critically and work together — brighten our horizons as individuals and as a state. We entrust teachers like Mattie Morris to guide our children and lead us to a better future. But instead of equipping Ms. Morris with the resources it takes to do her work, Kentucky is one of the worst states in the country when it comes to funding cuts to schools in recent years. And funding problems with the teachers retirement system devalue the lifetime of service that our teachers give. It’s time to strengthen our investments in public education and give our kids the opportunity they deserve.
